One person was killed and dozens were injured when high winds caused part of a stage to collapse during a dance music festival near the Spanish city of Valencia early on Saturday, officials said. regional emergency services.

The crash happened in the early hours of the Medusa Festival, a massive six-day electronic music festival held in the east coast town of Cullera, south of Valencia, Reuters reported.

Of the injured, three suffered serious trauma and 14 suffered more minor injuries, regional emergency services tweeted. Regional health authorities later said 40 people had been treated.

The festival has been suspended for the time being “due to bad weather in the early hours of August 13, and in order to guarantee the safety of participants, workers and artists”, organizers said in a statement posted on the Facebook page. of the festival.

The festival site had been evacuated “as a preventive measure to facilitate the work of the emergency and security services of the Medusa Festival”, adds the press release.

Spanish media said other structures at the event were also damaged by the high winds.
