Algeria strongly condemned on Friday what it called a “serious deviation” committed by the Moroccan diplomatic mission to the United Nations (UN), after issuing an official memorandum in which Morocco expressly declared its support for “law. from the Kabyle people to self-determination. “
Moroccan media reported Thursday that the country’s ambassador to the UN Omar Hilal called for “the independence of the Kabyle people” in Algeria.
Hilal’s call comes after Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra announced his support for the right to self-determination of the people of Western Sahara, which Morocco and the Polisario Front have been trying to control since 1975.

In response, the Algerian Foreign Ministry’s statement announced: “The Moroccan diplomatic representation in New York has issued an official memorandum to all member states of the Non-Aligned Movement, the content of which is officially devoted to the demonstration of the involvement of the Kingdom of Morocco in an anti-Algerian campaign through public and explicit support for the presumed right to self-determination of the Kabyle people “who, according to the memorandum,” suffered the longest state of foreign occupation “.
The statement saw this memorandum as: “A recognition of the multifaceted Moroccan support currently being given to a well-known terrorist group”, referring to the Separatist Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylia (MAK), which Algeria recently described as terrorist. group, with the Rachad Movement.
The statement stressed that Morocco’s current support for the MAK is no different from: “Supporting the terrorists who shed Algerian blood during the black decade”.
Algeria called the Moroccan diplomatic statement “reckless, irresponsible and manipulative”. He stresses that it is: “a myopic, reductive and futile attempt to create a shameful confusion between the question of decolonization recognized as such by the international community and what is only a simple plot fomented. against the unity of the Algerian nation. . “

Algeria also considered that the Moroccan declaration: “Directly contradicts the principles and agreements which structure and inspire Algerian-Moroccan relations, in addition to flagrantly contradicting international law and the constitutive law of the African Union”.
Algeria strongly condemned what it called: “A serious deviation, including within the Kingdom of Morocco and within its internationally recognized borders”.
The Algerian Foreign Ministry’s statement concluded by stating that in view of this situation resulting from a dubious diplomatic act performed by an ambassador, Algeria, which is a sovereign and indivisible republic, has the right to obtain clarification on the final position of the Kingdom of Morocco regarding this extremely dangerous incident.
