Do you feel like something is missing in your life this year? A summer family vacation, maybe? Maybe you’ve taken a break in the UK, but never made it overseas. Maybe you missed it completely. If so, there’s good news – it’s not too late to pack a week in the sun, and thanks to the latest changes in travel and testing rules, the holidays have suddenly become less stressful – and around £ 75 per person cheaper. And among the top destinations to be taken off the redlist this week, Turkey is a great option for an October family vacation.
This news did not go unnoticed. Most major tour operators and airlines have reported an increase in bookings and inquiries, especially for the next semester. When Transportation Secretary Grant Shapps revealed the changes, Skyscanner reported a 103% increase in bookings (compared to the previous week), while a Thomas Cook spokesperson said last weekend ” was our best weekend [for bookings] this year. âTravelSupermarket has also seen Turkey’s search skyrocket.
How far this has pushed prices up is not yet clear – there shouldn’t be a shortage of accommodation, but the pinch point will be flights as demand drops so much over two weekends. But airlines are responding by adding seats, which will help lower fares. EasyJet has announced that it will increase capacity by 51,000 for UK departures to seaside destinations in October, particularly for mid-term dates. And we’ve found plenty of availability for those willing to be flexible about where they travel.
Before you rush out and book though, there are a few things to keep in mind. Wall-to-wall sunshine is not guaranteed at the end of October, especially in the Mediterranean. You need to maximize your chances of good weather by heading further south to destinations like Cyprus, Sicily, Puglia, Andalusia and Crete, where the average daily highs are between 21 and 25 ° C with at least five or six hours of sun a day. Or go a little further to the Canaries which will be a little warmer. Marrakech’s desert climate is also an excellent bet with October averages of at least 27 ° C and eight hours of sunshine.
Whatever your preference, we hope you find inspiration in our selection of 20 of the best vacations to these destinations – from Tenerife to the eastern Mediterranean. All are still available for this midterm – but don’t delay too long or you could miss your very last chance for sunshine in 2021.
